Espionage during World War II
Moe BergMoe Berg was an American baseball player that played for many teams in the 1920's and on. He was called the "brainiest man in baseball" because of how smart he was. In the early 1930's he caught the eye of the U.S. Government while at a dinner-party. Berg first did his spy work while on the American All-Star team. He did this in 1934 while touring Japan. He took movies of the Tokyo Harbor, industrial areas, and military installations. Then in 1944 he was assigned to one of his most important missions to date. He was supposed to spy on the German atomic bomb program. If they were close to developing the bomb, he was supposed to kill the head scientist. While there he concluded that the Germans were many years away from getting a working bomb.

Dusan PopovDusan Popov was born on July 10th in 1912. He was a double agent who worked for the British intelligence agency, also known as MI6. He secretly hated the Nazi Party in Germany and this is the main reason he turned into a double agent. Once the British accepted him as a double agent, Popov moved to London where he would sometimes stay. While working for MI6, Popov fed the Germans just enough information to keep them happy while also feeding them false information. For doing this, he was greatly paid by the British. When he was sent to the United States, he warned the FBI of the Pearl Harbor attack in August, but they never believed him or there wasn’t enough evidence. Dusan Popov was very well known for his personal lifestyle. He usually had a woman by his side while he was not in the field and even sometimes when he was in the field. He is considered to be the inspiration of the famous spy, James Bond.

Henri DericourtHenri Dericourt was born in France in 1909. When he was a young man he joined the French Air Force. In 1942, Dericourt fled occupied France and he sought refuge in Great Britain. He then joined the SOE and returned to France as a spy to spy on the Germans there. He was also supposed to arrange landings there and the transportation of other SOE agents in the field. But when many SOE agents were arrested by the Gestapo, they feared that a double agent had entered their program in France. Dericourt was accused of being a double agent and was arrested by the British. However, he was released two years later. Then in 1962 he was killed in a plane crash but some believe that he faked his death and started a new life because his body was never found. To this day, no one knows if he was really a double agent, but there is a lot of evidence against him.
