Allied Leaders Continued
Chiang Kai-shekChiang Kai-shek was born in Fenghua, China on October 31st 1887. In his early years, his father died and this left the family in poverty. He ran away and then joined the provincial army. In 1907, he went to the Military State College in Tokyo, Japan. In 1926, Chiang led an army that wanted to unify China and he defeated the communist army. He created a government in Nanjing and established many reforms such as the aspects of education. When the Japanese invaded China in 1937, Chiang had to move his capital because of the aggression. Once the United States entered the war, China received substantial aid from the U.S. This helped Chiang to try and stop the Japanese expansion across the Chinese heartland. Once the war ended, communist forces overran the government and forced Chiang and some of his armed forces to flee to Taiwan. Chiang then died on April 5th, 1975.
