Benito MussoliniBenito Mussolini was born in 1883 in Predappio, Italy. He was a devoted socialist just like his father before him. Benito Mussolini created the Fascist Party in 1919 after World War I. By 1925, Mussolini had declared himself dictator of Italy, also known as the “II Duce” or “The Leader.” He had promised to bring Italy back to Roman glory and make Italy strong. The Fascist movement opposed the social class discrimination and said they would bring Italy back to the days of Roman glory. Mussolini terrorized political opponents through his military group called the “Black Shirts.” When Germany invaded Poland, Italy was forced to declare war with France and Great Britain because of the pact that Italy and Germany had made. The true weakness of the Italian military was shown throughout Northern Africa and Greece. But in 1944, Allied forces liberated the Italian capital, Rome, and Mussolini was then killed by his own people on April 27th, 1945.
