Viktor Brack was a member of the Nazi Party and one of Hitler’s top officials. He joined the party and the Schutzstaffel (SS) in 1929, and was promoted to SS Standardtenfuehrer later on, which is the American equivalent of a colonel. By 1940, Brack had achieved the position of SS Oberführer, or Senior Colonel. At this position, it was Brack’s job to build concentration camps in Poland. Brack was also part of the euthanasia program and even took part in the negotiations about the Final Solution. Brack was partly responsible for the idea of sterilization using X-rays. Four years later in 1945, the American Counter-Intellignece Corps (CIC) arrested Brack, but under the name of Hermann Ober. It took weeks for the CIC to uncover his true identity. Two years after his trial in Nuremburg in 1946, Brack was hanged (Simkin).
